Gordon was born in 1896. He was the son of Robert Kelly and Agnes Lindsay. [1]
Gordon was in the Army for WW1. His Service number was WWI 30233 R.D. Kelly (father), Assistant Postmaster, Christchurch, New Zealand was named as next of kin. When Gordon enlisted his occupation was a Banker. WW1 30 Dec 1916-3 March 1917 to Plymouth, Devon HMNZT 72 Vessel was Athenic A Private with the 14th Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion, (F Company ) New Zealand Rifle Brigade Gordon had a Medical Examination in Gisborne NZ and was found to medically fit for the Forces in the N.Z. Expeditionary Forces. Gordon was 21yrs old and trained in Featherston NZ [from August 1916] On Oct 3rd he was admitted to Featherston Hospital with the measles for 14 days. He Embarked for War in Wellington NZ. On 30-12–1916. During his time in active service in France Gordon took very ill and was admitted to a field hospital and diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever. He then was transferred to England to be admitted to Brockenhurst Hospital where he was classified as unfit for active service on 24-10-17 and 1-11-17 embarked for NZ on the ship Mokoia. Gordon carried out 1yr 9mth of active service. He was Awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. [2]
