Esther's birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1876 in the Poplar district of Middlesex, England.[1][2] She was the daughter of Bernhardt Kahn and Jane Levy.

Esther was admitted into the Stepney Jewish School in August 1882 at the same time as her brother Aaron (Harry) Kahn. The family had moved to Commercial Road at the time.[2]
Esther Kahn migrated from Cornwall, England to New South Wales, Australia on Abergeldie in 1884.
Ester arrived on the 3rd of February 1884, in New South Wales, on the "Abergeldie" with her family.[4]

Ester's parents decided to separate in 1889 and "a deed of separation was drawn up."[5]
Esther and a group of interested individuals, established an Australian branch of the International Society for Musical Theraputics, and it was incorporated in 1927.[6]
Esther attended Riviere College and became a composer and musician who also played the Pianoforte and sang.[7][8] She was considered a "talented musical soul" by one of her former teachers.[9]
COMPOSER AND MUSICIAN ESTHER KAHN, Australian musician and composer, has many brilliant compositions to her credit for piano and organ. At Sydney Town Hall on Armistice Night, her song, "Requiescat," was sung by a choir of five hundred boys. A one-time star child pupil of Sydney's great old music master, Josef Kretschmann, Miss Kahn is president of the club founded in memory of his devotion to gifted Australian youth. She is the founder and president of the International Society of Musical Therapeutics, and past president of the music circle of the Lyceum Club. Miss Kahn's compositions include (of those published), for the piano, "Valse Brillante," "Water Mill," "Sweet Idleness," "Intermezzo," "Barcarolle." Among the most popular of her songs are "Red, Red Rose," "Coon Song," "Last Year," "Old English Tavern Song," and "Hymn of Peace."[10]
Esther Kahn passed away on the 19th of December 1962 and was cremated at Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Matraville, Randwick City, New South Wales, Australia.[11][12] .[13]
