Robert Filmer of Otterden, yeoman, bachelor aged 24, married Elizabeth Jeffery a spinster aged 22 at St Mildred's, Canterbury, in 1671. The Licence, dated 18/5/1671, indicates that both sets of parents consented to the marriage and that Robert Jeffery of Lenham, yeoman, put up bonds:

1671 May 18 Robert FILMER of Otterden, yeom, ba. 24 whose parents consent and Eliz. Jeffery s.p., spr 22 whose parents also consent. At St. Mildred Cant. Robert Jeffery of Lenham yeom bonds.

Robert and Elizabeth appear to have had several children: the first was aborted at Wichling in 1672; their next child, Ann, was baptised there in 1673; their first son, clearly named after his wife's family name - Jeffery, was baptised at Newnham in 1675 but was buried at Wichling in 1676; next came Elizabeth, baptised at Wichling in 1677 (She died in infancy), then probably another Jeffery, (he married Ann Hounder ? at Milton in 1698/9, dying there, presumably from an accident, with his servant, in 1732: they had two children. Mary baptised in 1700 and Ann in 1703 both at Milton): followed by another son. John. who was baptised at Charing in 1680 but died there three years later; then, possibly, a daughter; Sarah, baptised in 1683 at St. Giles, Cripplegate; followed by another daughter, Katherine, who was baptised at Charing in 1684 (She died at Ospringe in 1693), then Jane, baptised at Charing in 1688 (She married James Lucas there in 1710); and, lastly, Robert, baptised in 1693 at Ospringe. They must have been very pleased to have at last got a son to survive whom they could call Robert.

Robert was buried at Charing on the 22nd October, 1712 and his wife, Elizabeth, also at Charing, on 19th February, 1728/1729.

The family were early descendants of the main FILMER family of Kent

Hi Dennis

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-643580

Sarah's maiden name was Jackson, as per the sources on her profile

Could you please amend her Last Name at Birth or add me to her Trusted List so I can make the change myself.

Thanks Steve

William FILMER (1828-1902) was the son of John FILMER, b. 21/2/11802, and Anna SOUTTEN, who married 21 May 1827 in Sturry, Kent. He married Amy M HATTON on 13 Aug 1849 in Canterbury, Kent. St George. The index of assisted immigrants from Kent to Sydney has two Filmer entries, William and Amy, according to the index husband and wife. They emigrated to Australia on the 'Sarah' from Plymouth which arrived at Sydney on 10th December, 1849.
