Hi Peggy, I am trying to figure out a Rebecca Lewis Hamer on my Dad's side. Born in 1776 so I should be able to find her parents, right? You've been very helpful, thank you.

I think this is the profile you're interested in extending: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lewis-27739

I took a quick look at ancestry.com and Rebecca Lewis Hamer's attached parents seem to be INCORRECT . According to the attached SAR record, the Revolutionary War Soldier John Lewis and his wife Sarah Putnam had a daughter Rebecca BUT her DOB and DOD are different than your ancestor's https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/2204/images/32596_242304-00455?pId=714575 Their daughter Rebecca married John Pearson in 1802 and your ancestor was having children with the surname Hamer from 1796 to 1821.

Finding her parents may take a great effort. From the current ancestry.com trees, people have already confused your ancestor's records with another woman, so be careful.

You might want to contact the profile manager for Rebecca Lewis Hamer to see why he hasn't been able to identify her parents.

Thank you. I'll keep working on it.

Hi Emmett.

I see you have created Pre-1700 profiles using only "FamilySearch.org" or "ancestry.com" as the sources, which is unacceptable. A reliable source provides sufficient information for another researcher to find and confirm your research. This is the link to a Reliable Sources page that has the various projects sourcing guidelines. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Reliable_Sources_for_Pre-1700_Profiles

If you have questions, the G2G forum is a great place to ask for help or advice as well.

Thanks! John

Hi just a reminder that at the time you create a pre-1700 profile, you should have the source added. The words "Family Source" without any record isn't a reliable source.

I meant familysearch.com. I will redo the source and continue to explore that urin name

Hello Emmett,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for volunteering to help grow our one world tree.

Please drop into our friendly Genealogist to Genealogist (G2G) forum to introduce yourself to other WikiTreers - you can access the G2G by selecting G2G Profile from your My WikiTree menu at the top right of most pages.

WikiTree can be a bit overwhelming at first, so don't hesitate to post your questions in the G2G.

Good luck with connecting your leaves and branches to our big tree,

Maryann

If that’s correct please leave another comment here on your profile to indicate your willingness to help build the “Tree”, and one of the Greeters will be happy to add you as a member of WikiTree.

If you just want to explore and search for relatives or family information you can do that as a guest without volunteering.

To help you with your search, check out the “Find” button. Clicking the “Matches for family”or the “Surnames” buttons may show you the way to some family info or connections.

In the “Help” area you can post questions in the G2G forum. We have a lot of people who are willing to help. Just ask. Good Luck.
