Biography

Susan was born in Castine, Maine in 1795, the daughter of Samuel Jones and Mehitable Stover.^[1]She married Jonathan Hardy on Deer Isle in 1834.^[2]Jonathan died in 1849. In 1850, Susan lived on Deer Isle with her daughter Lucy.^[3]In 1860 she lived with the family of John and Emmeline Weed.^[4]Susan married Timothy Saunders in 1864.

Jonathan Hardy, before noticed, was the occupant of the lot of land lying northwest of that of Mr. Benson, and he occupied it till his death. Some years before that time he sold a part of it to his son, Mr. Jonathan Hardy, Jr., who removed to Winterport, and it was by him sold to Mr. James E. Parker, who is now the occupant. The remainder of the lot is the property of the sons of Silas L. Hardy. His second wife, a Miss Susan Jones, of Castine, after his death became the wife of Mr. Timothy Saunders. She had one daughter after her marriage with Mr. Hardy, who became the wife of Mr. John Hardy, and she died in the year 1854, on the voyage with her husband to Washington Territory.
