Biography

Caroline Jackson's birth is calculated to be 03 Jun 1788 in Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, and is based on her death record which gives her age as 83 years, 7 months and 14 days. She was born before the death of her grandfather, John Jackson, and she is mentioned pointedly in his will in 1791. Her year of birth is reconfirmed by being mentioned in her grandfather's will in 1791, and the consistent replies on the census all of which calculate to early 1788. Her birth is not recorded perhaps because she was born out of wedlock. Her place of birth is supplied by the death records of her three sons, Corydon, Aaron and Edwin, all of whom pre-deceased her.^{[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]}

From Dec. 1797 to November 1804, she attended Susanna Rowson/Rawson's school in Boston, and later Rebecca Butler's Academy.^[9] The photograph on this profile displays a piece of her needlework completed there.

Caroline married on 27 March 1806 in Cambridge, Middlesex, to Aaron Richards Jr. of Newton, ^[10] the son of Aaron & Thankful (Wiswall) Richards.

She died on 17 January 1872 in Brighton, ^{[11][12][13][14]} and was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery there.^[15][16]

An obituary was printed in the Boston Daily Advertiser commemorating her death:
"In Brighton, 17th inst, Mrs. Caroline, widow of the late Aaron Richards of Brighton, [died] aged 83 yrs 7 mos. Funeral Saturday at 2 o'clock, at the residence of her son-in-law, Josiah Gillmore."^[17]
