Walter Hunt was born in 1870, at Kiama, Colony of New South Wales, youngest son of George Hunt and Mary Ann Furnish.^[1]

Walter had at least four elder sisters and two elder brothers, also born at Kiama: Emma, Jane, George, James, Mary and Fanny.

Walter Hunt married Elizabeth Laing, at Newtown, Colony of New South Wales, in 1893.^[2]

They had:

1. Maurice, b. 1895, Kiama, d. 1953, Townsville.
2. Walter Holman, b 1907, Townsville.
3. Colin Leigh, b. 1910, Townsville.

Walter Hunt passed away in 1940.
