Biography

Millicent was born on 1 April 1867. She is the daughter of William Hoyle and Ellen Knibbs..[1] Her birth was registered in Halliwell, Lancashire, England. On 5 May 1867 she was baptised in St Sampson's Church, York, close to the home of her grandparents.[2]

In 1871 Millicent was living with her parents and younger brother at 55 Church Street, Little Bolton, Bolton, Lancashire, England.[3]. The Census Returns records her as four years-old.

Her brother Robert was born in 1873 and Francis was born in 1876.

By 1881, her father, William was a teacher at Birch Green School, Hertingfordbury, Hertford, Hertfordshire, England. He was living there with his wife and four children at the time of the Census in April 1881.[4]. Millicent was 14 years-old and was described as a "scholar".

By 1886 she had moved with her family to Luton, Bedfordshire. She was recorded as an Assistant Teacher at the Old Bedford Road Board School, Luton, when it was inspected in 1886.[5]

On 3 February 1887, she died at the family home in Cardiff Road, Luton, at the age of 19 years.[6]. A notice in a Yorkshire newspaper noted: "HOYLE. - February 3rd, Millicent Helen, only daughter of Mr William Hoyle, School Board clerk and assistant inspector, Luton, and granddaughter of Mr. William Hoyle, china dealer, of York, aged 19."[7]
