A late recruit, he joined Company H of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on March 31, 1864 at age 36 as Private. He was wounded at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain on July 2, 1864. He was died in service near Atlanta on August 16, 1864 and is interred there in Section J, grave 26.
