Jane Houghton was born in 1852 [1] in Stockton Heath, Cheshire, England, the daughter of George Houghton and Ann Goodier.
Her father died in May 1854.
Jane was baptised with her sister on 2 July 1854 in St Thomas's church, Stockton Heath.[2]
In 1861 she was living with her mother, 5 siblings and her grandmother in Wellington Place, Stockton Heath. Her mother 'kept a mangle'. [3]
