Sterling Holloway is Notable.

Sterling Holloway's was a voice that touched many, as he offered his talents to the likes of Winnie-the-Pooh, the stork in "Dumbo", and Kaa the python in "The Jungle Book", all from Disney children's productions.[1]

Sterling Price Holloway was born January 14, 1905 in Cedartown, Georgia.[2] He was the son of Sterling P. and Rebecca Boothby Holloway. [3][4][5] He grew up in Cedartown, Georgia[3] along with his only sibling, a brother, Boothby.[6] He attended the Georgia Military Academy, and later the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.[7]

Sterling never married and left no biological descendants, but did adopt a son, Richard Holloway.[5][1]

Sterling served in World War II, enlisting July 19, 1942.[5] He was assigned to the Army's Special Services Unit, touring on the front line in North Africa and Italy.[7]

Sterling is, perhaps, best known as the original voice of "Winnie the Pooh," which he voiced until 1988, and as Kaa, the python, in "The Jungle Book," both from The Walt Disney Company, among many other voice animation roles.[1] He was personally asked to audition for the voice of Kaa by Walt Disney.[7] He stated that his favorite character was always Pooh.[1][7] He was honored as a Disney Legend in 1991.[8] He also worked as a live-action actor.[9] Of those, his most notable were on Gilligan's Island, The Andy Griffith Show, and Family Affair.[1] He was never happy with the way he was type-cast, though.[7]

As his health began to decline in later years, Sterling retired from all his acting roles.[7] He instead spent his time building his contemporary art collection.[7] He even sometimes lectured on the subject and curated special collections.[7]

Sterling passed away November 22, 1992 in California from cardiac arrest.[4][1] He was cremated and his ashes were scattered at sea.[2]

Wow! We were just watching some old Disney cartoons, and I recognized one of the voices as being the same as the Cheshire Cat. What a cool voice he had!
