Inspired by my mother, Mildred Easterling Hill, who was always interested in learning about her ancestors, I started doing my own research on my Hill paternal line, of which we knew a little, but nothing beyond my great grandfather, John William Hill Jr.
I became a big believer in the power of DNA testing to break down long-standing brick walls after my Y-DNA test results from Family Tree DNA in 2004 connected me to researchers who had already done much research on my Hill ancestors, of whom I had known nothing until the Y-DNA test. I then had to research to find how my more distant ancestors, connected by DNA to my more recent Hill ancestors.
Although my Hill name doesn't sound French, I believe that so many clues are pointing to a Huguenot origin of my paternal line is quite likely. My Y-DNA and Big Y tests on FTDNA show a French connection that probably dates back to at least pre-1700s. My Hill family lived in colonial Virginia, and always seemed to be neighbors of Huguenot families such as Seay, League, Allegre, etc. whenever then moved, i.e. from King William County, Virginia to Amelia County, Virginia, and then to Madison, Boone, Warren, and Allen counties in Kentucky.
I'm looking forward to using this great resource of WikiTree to learn more about my ancestors and to also share my information with others.
