Biography

My grandfather, John Arthur Hewitt, was born and raised in Trowbridge, England. In 1893, he arrived in America, age 18, and settled in my hometown, Rockville, Connecticut, where he met and married my grandmother Clara Mary Berthel in 1897. Clara was born and partially raised in Grimmitschau, Saxony, Germany. At age six, she immigrated to America with with my great grandparents August and Antonie Berthel and siblings.

My father, Frank Arthur Hewitt married my mother Lenore Roberta Thompson, daughter of Robert Charles Thompson and Florence Eleanor Laubscher. My Thompson family has lived in the same area since 1720.

My 7th great grandmother Margaret Tomson/Thomson and her children arrived in America about 1720 and settled in Melrose and Ellington, Connecticut....just a few miles from my hometown. The surname changed later to "Thompson".

My 6th great grandfather James Thomson married Jennet "Janet" Scott and had several children including my 5th great grandfather John Thomson, who married Bilhah Terry. My 5th great grandmother Bilhah, was the daughter of Isaac Terry and Margaret Downing. They had several children, including James Thompson, my 4th GGF.

My 4th great grandfather James Thompson married Anna Allen, daughter of Joseph Allen and Lois Burnham.

Their son, my 3rd great grandfather John Terry Thompson married Sarah Maria Blodgett. My 3rd great grandmother, Sarah Maria was the daughter of Phineas Blodgett and Sarah Reed.

My 3rd great grandparents. John and Sarah Maria (Blodgett), were the parents of two children Lucius Edwin Thompson and Charles Edward Thompson.

My 2nd great grandfather, Lucius Edwin Thompson married Francis Maria Bowe, daughter of Asa Bowe and Sabra L Strickland.

My 3rd Great grandmother Sabra Strickland, daughter of Seth and Anna (Shepard) Strickland, married Asa Bowe (3rd GGF). After his death, she married Benjamin Ashley.

My 4th Great grandmother Anna (Shepard) Stickland, daughter of John Shepard and Silence (Penfield) Shepard, married Seth Strickland.

My 5th Great Grandmother Silence Penfield, daughter of John and Ann (Cornwall) Penfield, married John Shepard.

My 6th Great Grandfather John Penfield, son of Samuel and Mary (Lewis) Penfield, married Ann Corwall.

My 2nd great grandparents, Lucius and Francis Maria (Bowe) Thompson had several children including Alberti Terry Thompson, my great grandfather.

My great grandfather Alberti Terry Thompson married Ida May Bacon, the youngest daughter of James Caroline Sullivan and Caroline Bidwell.

My great grandparents, Alberti and Ida May (Bacon) had several children including my grandfather Robert Charles Thompson. Robert married my grandmother Florence Eleanor Laubscher.
