Richard Heales was known primarily as a politician who served 1 term as Premier of Victoria in the Legislative Assembly.
Richard Heales was born in 22 February 1822 and christened on 24 March 1822 in Southwark, London, England[1]. He was the son of Richard Heales and Elizabeth Parker.
He married Rhoda Parker in 1841[2], at St. Clement's Church, Westminster[3].
He was a member of the Legislative Assembly (Lower House) for the State of Victoria.
He was President of the Board of Land and Works, and Commissioner of Crown Lands and Survey, for Victoria[4][5].
The town of Healesville in the Yarra Valley was named in his honour.
He died on 19 June 1864[6], at his residence in Elsternwick[7][8].
He was buried on 23 Jun 1864 in the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton[9], following a funeral procession that travelled from his residence in Elsternwick, to the Independent Church in St. Kilda and past the St. Kilda Road Military Barracks[10][11][12]. The Offices of both the Melbourne City Council and the Borough Council of Emerald Hill (now South Melbourne, part of the City of Port Phillip) closed for the afternoon as a mark of respect.
