Biography

Wesley Hayes is a part of US Black heritage.

Wesley Solomon Hayes was born on October 4, 1886, in Taylorsville, Polk County, Georgia, to parents Solomon and Lou Hayes. By 1900, he had moved to Hazen Township, Prairie County, Arkansas, where he worked as a farm laborer.

On June 24, 1906, Wesley married Julia McNeill in Prairie County, Arkansas. Throughout the years, he continued to reside in Hazen Township, Prairie County, farming for a living in both 1918 and 1920.

Wesley married Cordelia Montgomery on June 30, 1927, in Woodruff County, Arkansas. By 1930, the family had moved to Brinkley, Monroe County, Arkansas, where Wesley had transitioned into a teaching role within the public school system. He continued teaching in Brinkley as of the 1940 census. By 1950, Wesley had risen to the position of superintendent at the local school in Brinkley.

Tragically, Wesley Solomon Hayes passed away on January 10, 1965, in Malvern, Hot Spring County, Arkansas.
