Biography

Birth

Nathaniel Hall was born on 8 February 1724 in Mansfield, Windham (later Tolland), Connecticut to Theophilus Hall (about 1685-1747) and Ruth Sargeant (1696-1799).[1][2]

Marriage and Family

He married Martha Storrs on 7 November 1745 in the First Congregational Church in Mansfield, Connecticut.[3]

  1. Capt. Nathaniel Hall Jr. born 13 August 1746.
  2. Deborah Hall born 8 June 1748. Deborah married Joseph Warner on 24 March 1768. She died on 26 March 1844 in Amherst, Hampshire, Massachusetts, USA.
  3. Ruth Hall born 27 March 1751. She married Nathaniel Storrs (born 1747), son of Cornelius Storrs (1714-1760) and Martha Porter (1711-1776) on 27 March 1771 He was of New Lebanon, New Hampshire. She died on 2 April 1832 in Lebanon, Grafton, New Hampshire, USA.
  4. Olive Hall born 25 June 1753. Olive married Shepard Sterns of Mansfield on 12 January 1795. She died on 24 February 1783 in Lebanon, Grafton, New Hampshire, USA.
  5. Martha Hall born 14 June 1755. Martha married Thomas Barrows on 9 May 1776. She died on 23 December 1819 in Mansfield, Connecticut, USA.
  6. Andrew Hall born 9 February 1758. He married 1) Zerviah Woolworth and 2) Unknown Stearns.
  7. Azariah Hall born 1 December 1760. He died on 19 December 1760 in Mansfield, Connecticut.
  8. Richard Hall born 21 April 1762. He died on 15 November 1813 in New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut, USA.
  9. Aaron Hall born on 22 August 1764. Aaron married Zervia Slate on 3 October 1783.
  10. Asahel Hall born 20 August 1766. He died on 27 March 1813 in New Haven, Addison, Vermont, USA at the home of his brother. He was unmarried.
  11. Mary Hall born 3 January 1769. She died on 19 June 1840. She married Eleazer Barrows (1763-1847). They lived in Middlebury, Addison, Vermont. Mary died on 19 June 1840 in Middlebury, Addison, Vermont, USA.

Military Service

He was commissioned as a Lieutenant by the King when he was just 18 years old. He later achieved the rank of Captain. He fought in the French war at Quebec and had command of troops in Fort Groton (which is now New Lebanon, Connecticut). He was on half pay by the time the Revolutionary War started.

Death and Burial

Nathaniel died at the home of his son Richard on 27 July 1810 in New Haven, Addison, Vermont, USA.[5]

Capt was mentioned on a memorial in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, Addison County, Vermont, United States with a death date of 27 July 1810.[6]
