Biography

According to Ward and Doyle, this is the biography of Robert Whitney of Castleton:[1]

Robert Whitney was born about 1500. He was married to Elizabeth daughter of Morgan ap William. They had the following children:

  • Ann c1535 married name Robage
  • Nicholas c1538
  • William c1542
  • Elinor c1546
  • Thomas c1550
  • Margaret c1553 married name Powell
  • Richard c1556

Elizabeth was still living in 1555, when husband Robert wrote his will.[1]

FindAGrave says she died in 1568.[2]

According to Bio, Elizabeth is daughter of Morgan Williams. Why isn't Morgan listed as the father, and where did the name "Gwillims" come from? That appears to be a propagated misspelling.

Thanks for noting this problem and for moving it along. If Elizabeth "Gwillims" is actually Elizabeth verch (daughter of) Morgan ap (son of) William, then Williams isn't really a proper surname for Morgan either. Wish the names of these folks would be left in the original Welsh form, otherwise it is very confusing. Also the children should be reconciled to the ones listed in the biography. As it is, the date of the marriage must be wrong, and the birth dates given for the last three children are highly unlikely, with Elizabeth in her 50's! This is more than I would like to take on, in a place and time that I usually don't work with on here.

Elizabeth Whiney Guillims died 2 years before her daughter Margaret Whitney Powell was born.

Can you please adjust the death date to after 1570 when her last child was born?
