Gertrude Ann Geappen (married name Cosgrove) was born on 3 October 1882 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Geappen (nee O'Brien) and James Geappen.^[1][2]

She married Robert Cosgrove on 10 January 1911 in Hobart.^[2] Their children were:^[2]

• Gladys Lillian Cosgrove (1911–1979)
• Robert James Cosgrove (1915–1940)
• Mary Irene Cosgrove (1913–1991)
• Henry Edward Cosgrove (1922–2010)

Gertrude was appointed to the Order of the British Empire as a Dames Commander (DBE) on 1 January 1947, for public service in Tasmania.^[2]

Gertrude died on 21 July 1962.^[2]
