Amanda Alice "Mandy" Freeman was born on October 16, 1867 in Jasper, Pickens County, Georgia, United States to parents John Freeman and Hulday Moss .^[1]

Amanda (a.k.a. Mandy or Manda) and William Clark(e) McClain were married on December 23, 1886 in Pickens County, Georgia, United States (Citation needed) and they had the following children together:

1. Stella (1887 - 1976)
2. Kate Evelyn (1892 - 1968)
3. Julia Agnes (1893 - 1973)
4. Sanford Clay (1899 - 1995)

Amanda or Mandy (Freeman) McCain passed away on January 13, 1966 in her home town of Jasper at Grandview Nursing Home in Pickens County, Georgia, United States. Her body was interred nearby inJasper City Cemetery.^[2]

Obituary

Amanda Freeman McClain

"Mrs. Amanda Freeman McClain, who celebrated her 98th birthday on October 16, 1965, passed away on January 13th at the Grand View Manor in Jasper.

Mrs. McClain's husband, the late William Clark McClain died in 1937. A short time before his death, they had celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. McClain were popular merchants in Jasper, operating a mercantile business in the building now housing the Service Auto Parts on Main Street for many years before the death of Mr. McClain. Mrs. McClain made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Y. T. Tarpley in Nelson, for several years.

Survivors include a son, Sanford C. McClain of Atlanta; three daughters, Mrs. Stella Byess of Moncks Corner, S.C.; Mrs. Y. T. Tarpley of Nelson, and Mrs. F. W. Cooper of College Park, six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Lula Warlick of Knoxville, Tenn.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home in Jasper with Rev. Carl Belt officiating. Burial was in Jasper City Cemetery."
