Daughters of the American Revolution
John Flint is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A205862.

John Flint was born in Rutland. "John the son of Thos Flint and Eunice his wife was born January 30th 1750/1." [1] John's parents--Thomas and Eunice--were born in Rutland, married in Rutland, and died in Rutland. John had at least nine siblings, and at least six of them were born in Rutland -- Sarah, Thomas, Eunice, Dorothy, Lucy, and Tilly.

John married Phebe Smith, probably about 1774, possibly in Paxton where their first two children were born.

John Flint "came to Oakham from Rutland in 1779 and purchased of Abraham Smith for 150 pounds sixty acres in Lot R, lying north of the land of William Harper. He sold this to his son Daniel in 1809." [2]

John and his wife, Phebe (daughter of Abraham Smith), had at least nine (probably ten) children:

  1. Alpheus (b. in Paxton 7 Sep 1775),[3]
  2. Eunice (b. in Paxton 1 Sep 1777 and baptized in Rutland 2 Oct 1778),[3]
  3. Frederick (b. 1782), John (b. Sept. 10, 1785, died Sept. 21, 1786[4]),
  4. Daniel (b. 1787),
  5. Lucy (b. July 20, 1789[5]),
  6. Sally (b. 1791, died 1853 [6]),
  7. Susannah (b. 1794) and
  8. John (b. 1796). [7]

They may also have had a daughter Zerviah.[8]

John's mother died in 1796; his father in 1802.

John Flint is in the U.S. censuses at Oakham in 1790 [9] (household had one adult male (John), two boys (Frederick and Daniel), and three females (Phebe, Lucy, and (most likely Zerviah, possibly Eunice)), 1800[10] (household had two aged 45+ (John and Phebe) and five others - a 16-25 male (Frederick), a 10-15 male (Daniel), and a <10 male (John), a 10-15 girl (Lucy) and a <10 girl (Susannah), and 1810[11] (four, John, Phebe, and a 16-25 male (Daniel) and a 10-15 male (John) .

There is no record of when John died and where he is buried. The basis for saying that it was 1818 is that the deed transferring the farm to son Daniel was recorded in 1818.

Research Notes

According to a "Flint Genealogy" dating from the 1940's, the first three children died young--"Alphe," died aged 2; "Eunice," died 1786, and "Zirviah," born 1780, died 1795. the basis for these dates is uncertain.

WARNING. A John Flint, Jr. and a Phebe Smith were married in Reading, Massachusetts 26 May 1791. Reading birth records show a John Flint, Jr, born in 1745 and a Phebe Smith, born in 1757. These are probably the two married in Reading in 1791. They had a daughter Hannah, born in Reading in 1800 [13] and other children, as well. This is certainly a different family.

Find a Grave Memorial ID: 191883792 states he was born 31 Jan 1750.[14]
