Notables Project
David Fidler is Notable.

David Fidler was born on 23 December 1950 in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England. His parents were Leonard "Len" Fidler and Marjorie Lowe.[1][2]

The Fidler family migrated to Australia, arriving in Fremantle aboard the S.S. New Australia on 21 August 1955.[3] During the next couple of decades, they lived in various small towns across outback Queensland, including Roma[2], Mount Isa[4], and Aspley[5].

As an adult, David relocated to Darwin, Northern Territory, and became a notable community personality through both his entrepreneurial enterprises and his journalism.[2] He is best known for being co-anchor of the nightly Eight National News on NTD-8 (Channel Eight Darwin; now Nine Darwin) during the 1980s and 90s.[6] He was also an accomplished sailor and swimmer, and member of both the Darwin Sailing Club[7] and Darwin Swimming Club.

In his later years, he remarried and settled in Nashville, Tennessee.

He passed away on 6 October 2023, leaving behind his wife, a brother, and two sons.[2]

** Profile Manager's Note **

I never knew David Fidler personally, but he is something of a legend here in the Top End. There are loads of stories about him - that he ran a hot dog stand in the Bunnings carpark (or was it Le Cornu?)... that he installed Austar satellite dishes... that he played the digeridoo... Mainly, people seem to remember him as a really good bloke who did a lot of charity work for the community and didn't deserve the blowback he got for his 'false Olympic gold medal' story.

Because he's a notable person, I have left his profile and biography "open" despite having living immediate family; however, if any of his rellies would like to add or correct anything, please let me know!
