Digital AfterLife

Family history research has been my hobby and passion since 1997 when it was a much slower process. In the early years, most of my research involved visiting record offices and writing letters to potential cousins who advertised their research names in the journals of Family History societies.

I have no children or grandchildren to pass my research on to. A desire for my research findings to be useful to my relatives after my death was, in part, my motivation for joining WikiTree in June 2020. Therefore, in the event of my death I hereby give permission for all of my private profiles to be transferred to any of my extended family members (including those of my spouse and his family). If no family members come forward to manage the profiles where I act as sole PM within 120 days of my death, the WikiTree staff shall have full and total access to manage the said profiles in any way they see fit in line with the Honor Code and by taking steps to preserve the privacy of living people.

Hi Maureen,

Just a belated acknowledgment of your greeting from March. As you no doubt know, I'm a newbie to WikiTree, & my tech skills can be best described as a work in progress. My primary family tree is on Ancestry, & I have more basic trees on My Heritage & Family Search. I'm hoping that the resources available through WikiTree will help me break through some of my brick walls, but I think my first step is to learn to navigate the WikiTree format. Any suggestions you have (think of me as a WikiTree toddler) to start this process would be much appreciated! Regards, Jenny Marsden

Saw your post about connecting. I just wanted to post a quick tip. Go sideways...I started out thinking the older the profile the more likely I'd run into a connection. Didn't happen, I get more connections by adding the children and finding their spouses. Just a tip.

Hi Pam

Thank you for the connecting tip. Yes, good idea to work on the children and their spouses. Best wishes to you and your family for a brighter more hopeful year 2021. Maureen

Hi Maureen,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

I've sent Joan a private message. Yes I would love to continue with the England Project, and would like to join the Yorkshire team.

Hi Maureen,

Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. To get the best results, you need to continue adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, try a different one. 24 hours after you connect to an existing profile, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.

Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!

Hi Maureen!

I am pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration. Don't be afraid to ask questions in our G2G forum and get involved as much or as little as works for you. Be sure to check out the tabs at the very top right hand side of your profile, there is lots to discover!

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do!

Happy tree climbing
