Ronald Oldham Doig was born in July 1909 at or about Cottesloe, Western Australia, Australia. He was the son of James Alexander Doig and his wife Maggie Elder (nee Miller).
Ronald Oldham Doig, known as Ron, was an Australian sportsman who played both Australian Rules football for South Fremantle in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and first-class cricket for Western Australia.
Ron Doig is Notable.
In the finals of the 1932 WANFL season, Doig, who was now captain-coach of the South Fremantle Football Club, was injured during a match against East Perth. He died from his injuries later that night after suffering from convulsions. The coroner investigated the death and declared it was an accidental death, but was critical of the lack of control by the umpire, the roughness of the play and the fact that the medical staff did not have the right to order players from the field. He had only been 23 years of age but was considered a veteran by the time of his death.
Ron was one of about 17 members of his family including his father, brothers, cousins and uncles who played Australian Rules Football at the top level in Western Australia.
He is believed to have been laid to rest at the Fremantle Cemetery, Palmyra, Western Australia.
