Leslie Diver is Notable.

Sir Leslie Diver was an Australian politician who served as a Country Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1952 to 1974. He was President of the Legislative Council from 1960 to 1974.

Leslie Diver was born in the Colony of Western Australia (1832-1900)

Leslie Charles Diver was born on 4th November 1899 in Perth, Western Australia (Australia). He was the second son of English emigrant Joseph Diver, a carpenter and union secretary, and Western Australia-born Charlotte Pearce. [1] He attended North Perth Primary School until 1910, before the family moved to Western Australia's Wheatbelt, whereupon he completed his formal education at Carrabin Springs School, Yorkrakine, at fourteen. [2]

After leaving school, he obtained work as a farm labourer and contractor, and then leased properties, before buying his own farm in 1924 at Yorkrakine. There, he developed his own wheat and grazing property, later becoming a stud merino sheep breeder at Lemdale in 1939. [2]

Leslie married Emma Blakiston, daughter of Frederick William Blakiston and Jane Waldock, on 29th August 1922 in the Tammin Agricultural Hall. [3] The couple subsequently had a son and two daughters.

Leslie was elected to the Kellerberrin Road Board (now the Shire of Kellerberrin) in 1933, and served until 1946. He was chairman in 1940, and again from 1942 to 1946. [2]

He entered parliament in May 1952, after winning a by-election. In 1960 he was elected President of the Legislative Council, serving in the position for almost fourteen years until retiring from politics in 1974. [2]

Following Emma's death on 20th October 1970, Leslie married again, to widow and fellow Kellerberrin resident Thelma Evans nee Kirkman on 24th April 1971 in St George’s Anglican Cathedral, Perth. [2]

In the Queen's Birthday Honours 1975 he was created Knight Bachelor. [4]

Aged 95 years, he passed away on 1995 in Kellerberrin and is buried in Kellerberrin Cemetery. [2]
