Biography

Joseph Després was born on 8 Oct 1843 and baptized on 21 Oct 1843 in Cocagne, New Brunswick, the son of François Després and Anne Melanson.^[1][2] His godparents were Joseph Bristol and Marie Bristol.

In the 1861 census Joseph (age 18) was listed with his parents and siblings in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.^[3]

In the 1871 census Joseph (age 27) was in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.^[4]

Joseph married Honoré (Honorine) Babineau on 24 Feb 1873 in Grande-Digue.^[5][6][7] Witnesses were Alphée LeBlanc and Sarah Després.

In the 1900 census Joseph was the married head of household in Westminster, Westminster, Worcester, Massachusetts.^[8]

In the 1920 census Joseph (age 77) was the married head of household in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts.^[9]

Joseph died in 1930 was buried in Sacred Heart New Cemetery, New Bedford.^[10]

The godfather for his daughter Susanne was his brother-in-law, Urbain Babineau.
