Biography

Charles Després was born on 17 Jul 1832 and baptized on 19 Aug 1832 in Cocagne, New Brunswick, the son of Simon Després and Henriette Surette.[1][2]

Charles married Modeste Melanson, daughter of Romain Melanson and Marie Pellerin, on 21 Jan 1858 in Cocagne.[3][4] Their children were:

  1. Simon Després (born about 1858)
  2. Marguerite Després (born 18 Dec 1858)
  3. Eustache Després (born 15 Nov 1860)
  4. Marianne Després (born 20 Feb 1863)
  5. Emilie Després (born 28 Jan 1865)

In the 1861 census Charles (age 27) was in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.[5] He was listed with his wife Modest and children Simon, Margret, and Eustach.

In the 1871 census Charles (age 42) was recorded as widowed in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.[6] He was listed with his children Simon, Eustache, and Marie.

Charles married Mary Jones (widow of Sebastian Breau) on 5 Oct 1872 in Kent County, New Brunswick.[7] Witnesses were François Brault and Catherine Després. Their daughter was:

  1. Julie Modeste Després (born 30 Jul 1878)

In the 1881 census Charles, age 48, farmer, was in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.[8]
