Biography

Mary was born 19 May 1768. She was the daughter of Samuel Dearborn and Sarah Clough. In 1790, she married David Richardson, who served in the Revolution for three months. They initially lived on the farm of Polly"s uncle, Peter Dearborn, in Plymouth, New Hampshire. In 1790, David purchased the farm adjoining Peter Dearborn, by 1799, they moved to Danville VT and later in 1801, to Compton, Canada East. After relocating twice more, David moved to Gloucester, Canada West (near Ottawa), where Mary "Polly" died in 1846. Later Mary's remains were re interred with those of her daughter Miriam and son in law, William Brennan in the Notre-Dame of Ottawa Cemetery. The tombstone that marks the grave is inscribed to William Brennan. [1]

  • Alternate names: Molly/Polly
- "New Hampshire birth records", "AGBI", and "New Hampshire, U.S., Births and Christenings Index, 1714-1904" list her name as "Molly" Dearborn and correctly name her parents[2][3][4]
- one line in NoAmFamHist list her only as "Polly" Dearborn[5]
-An SAR record lists her as "Polly" Dearborn, spouse of David Richardson, mother of Miriam[6]
- a primary record from Ontario church lists her as "Mary" Derborn, showing her spouse as D. Richardson[7]
- an unsourced Find a Grave lists her as "Mary" Dearborn, w spouse and three children[8]
  • 20 Dec 1790 - Mary of Plymouth m. David Richardson of Rumney in New Hampshire[9]. NoAmerFamHist says she married David, but does not provide a place or a date of that ceremony.[5]
  • There is a burial record from Notre Dame of Ottowain... recorded as Mary Derborn, wife of D. Richardson, died 29 Nov 1846, age 79, buried 30 Aug 1847.[7] Simple calculation gives us DOB for this Mary Derborn of 1767 which is quite close to other records giving DOB of 1768/9. Until an actual cemetery record for Polly can be found circa 1835, it does no harm to assume, for now, the 1847 Canadian burial record is correct for Mary Polly Dearborn-Richardson.

Dearborn-810 and Dearborn-687 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates other than birth year. I mistakenly created her as a child of Samuel and Sarah Clough Dearborn. No duplicates came up when I entered Polly instead of Mary. Please approve.
