In September of 1914, at Sydney, Spencer married [[Harris-38943|Emily Diana Harris, the daughter of Edwin and Emily Ruby Harris.[2] In 1915 they had a daughter, Anne Crakanthorp.[3]
Death
Spencer passed away 1 August 1936 at Sydney, NSW, Australia.[4]
Chess Career
Spencer's father, Lawrence Spencer Crakanthorp was an avid chess player. Spencer learned the game at an early age. He went on to become the New South Wales champion 6 times, the Australian champion twice and the New Zealand champion twice.[5][6]

OBITUARY.
MR. S. CRAKANTHORP.
The funeral of the late Mr. Spencer Crakanthorp, a former chess champion, took place yesterday. The remains were cremated at Rockwood, after a service at the chapel of Motor Funerals and conducted by the Rev. John Bidwell, of St Paul's Redfern. The chief mourners were Mrs. Crakanthorp (widow), Mr. and Mrs. C. J. S. Purdy (son-in-law and daughter), Mesdames A. B. Mason, D. Holmes, and R. Ranson (sisters), Messrs R. Ranson and A. B. Mason (brothers-in-law), Mrs. J. Crakanthorp (aunt), Dr. J. Saxon Crakanthorp, and Messrs M. C. Crakanthorp, Churchill Crakanthorp, J. Smith, and R. Harris (cousins).
Chess circles were represented by Messrs J Stewart (president), James Riddell (treasurer), and A E Neild, New South Wales Chess Association, David Stanley South Australian Chess Association, Hirry Huffell, Tasmanian Chess Association, K Koshnitsky Metropolitan Social Chess Club, B J Hill Bondi Waverley Chess Club, and A Todd, Mocca Chess Club. The Bank of New South Wales was represented by Messrs H D Brown (representing Mr A C Davidson general manager) J F Nichols staff inspector F D Hobbs H Hammond, A M Robertson, L M Fell, R Finch, A Brancker, W T Craig, C H Trollope, and V R Holmes.
