Biography

Johnnie, son of John Alden Corder & Hattie Alice Henning, was born on 4 April 1914 in Kemigala, Appanoose, Iowa.^[1]

In the 1920 census Teddie (age 5) was the son of John Corder in Chariton Township, Schuyler, Missouri.^[2]

In the 1925 census Teddie (age 10) was the son of Hattie A Carder in Appanoose, Iowa.^[3]

In the 1930 census Teddy (age 16) was the single son of Hattie A Corder in Wells, Appanoose, Iowa.^[4]

In the 1940 census Teddie (age 26) was the single hired hand of Harry A Walter in Grant Township, Putnam, Missouri.^[5]

Obituary

Ted Corder, age 92, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, February 16, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was born the son of John A. and Hattie Alice (Henning) Corder on April 4, 1914 on a house boat while on the Chariton River near Coal City, Iowa. He received his education in rural country schools in southeastern Appanoose County near Hilltown and Kelly.

On July 15, 1945, Ted was united in marriage to Mary McMorrow in Cincinnati, Iowa. He farmed near Cincinnati, Iowa and was a school bus driver for the Centerville Community Schools for several years. Ted loved to fish for catfish and has been know to land some of the largest in are area. He was known by his friends as "Catfish Corder". He also enjoyed a good Corn Husking Contest of which he has won many awards and trophies and placed 4th in the State Contest at the Living History Farms in Des Moines, Iowa in 1984. In the early 1950's, he was a member of the "Harmony Singers" which was a group that sang on KCOG for over 4 1/2 years.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Mary Corder on February 29, 2004; brothers, Carl, Bobbie and J.D. Corder; sisters, Florence Gordy and Nellie Lee.

Ted is survived by: his son, Don Miller and his wife, Joan of Port Orange, Florida; a brother, Tracy Corder of Moulton, Iowa; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Ken Martin officiating. Burial will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 from 1 till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6 till 8 pm. The family will have a lunch at the Christian Church in Cincinnati, Iowa following the graveside services. Memorials can be made to either the 18/80 Club, Pleasant Hill Cemetery or to Mercy Home Health.
