Josiah Collins came to Boonesborough (established in 1775}, via the Wilderness Road in March of 1778.
The July 27, 1787 Tax List B, Fayette Co., KY lists Josiah Collins with 2 horses and 7 cattle.
May 25 - Joseph Collins, 1 black under 16, 2 horses, 20 cattle June 4 - Jos Collins, Sr., 1 black over 16, 6 black under 16, 3 horses, 11 cattle June 25 - Stephen Collins, 5 horses, 28 cattle July 26 - Thomas Glass, 1 black over 16, 2 horses July 27 - Elisha Collins, 1 black under 16, 3 horses, 17 cattle July 27 - Josiah Collins, 2 horses, 7 cattle
"Josiah Collins, (34 years of age) married Janette (Jurette) Bohannon in Woodford County, December 21st 1791." Minister, Samuel Shannon (Railey's History of Woodford County, p. 319). Janette was born in 177 1. Josiah and Janette had six children:
Josiah Collins was appointed Justice of Knox County and returned to Fayette Co., KY before Sept. 20, 1801 (Order Bk A, p. 45). He then moved to Bath Co., Kentucky. In Bath Co., KY in 1819, deed of Willis Collins and wife Elenor to Josiah Collins (Bath Deed Bk B, p. 466), and deed of Josiah Collins to son Willis Collins for love and affection (Bath Deed Bk B, p. 468).
Josiah was recorded as having been Justice of the Peace in Bath Co., KY in 1832. He was the Josiah Collins interviewed by the Rev. Shane, and provided much of the pioneer data incorporated in the book "Lexington".
In Bath Co., KY., 1835-1837, deed of Josiah Collins to Silas Moore (Bath Deed Bk J, p. 71), and deed of Josiah Collins to Harland Moore (Bath Deed Bk K, p. 3).
Josiah died at Owingsville, KY in April 1846, age 89. His will was dated Sept. 30, 1845, and probated April 13, 1846 (Bath Bk E, p. 64).
In the name of God Amen. 1 Josiah Collins being of good health and sound mind and memory do publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills made by me at anytime heretofore made as to such worldly estate, as it has pleased God to intrust me with. I dispose of the same as follows. First, I direct that my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of the first money that may come into the hands of my Executor to be paid out of my personal monies estate. Second, I will to my oldest son Willis Collins one dollar. Likewise, I will to my younger sons Fielding and Bohannon Collins one dollar each, I will my fifty acres of land that George Moores lives on to Elizabeth Moores children, that is to say one acre to be laid off in the South West corner of said f fty acres and the same to be equally divided amongst Elizabeth Moores four sons, All the other part I will to Jurette Moores, daughter to Elizabeth Moores. Notwithstanding, I send the above fifty acres of land to my daughter Elizabeth Moores during her natural life and at her death to descend to her children as above. I farther say that George oores, husband to Elizabeth Moores is not to have any part in the land directly nor indirectly. also will to Elizabeth Moores two hundred dollars for which I hold a note on Bohannon Collins or the same said two hundred dollars to be lent out during her natural life and the interest to be paid annually by my executor to Elizabeth during her natural life and at her death to be divided !,amongst her children.
I will to Perlina Moores all the money that remains. I will my Estate at my death to be lent out on interest during her Perlina Moores natural life by my Executor and that the interest paid to said Perlina annually as long as she may live and at her death the principal to descend to her children. It is to be understood plainly that the money willed to Elizabeth and Perlina Moores is to remain in the hands of my Executor during the life of the above Elizabeth and Perlina Moores and to be lent as above.
I hereby make and ordain Bohannon Collins my Executor to this my last will and testament, written with my own hand on two sides of one half Sheet of paper, I hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th day of September 1845, Josiah Collins
