Biography
Maria Catharina Collins (Maria Catherine) was baptised on 22 December 1833, aged 1 day, at Clifton, Bristol by parents Dionysii Collins (Dennis) and Elizabeth Gwilliam. The ceremony was Roman Catholic. [1]
Her father Dennis died in 1838 and in 1841 her mother married again, to Matthew Eager.
In 1851 Maria was living with Matthew and Eliza in Bristol. Matthew was a Licensed Victualler. [2]
On 16 October 1852, at the age of 18, Maria Catherine Collins and James George Hawley married in Temple, Bristol. James was a Potter his father Joseph was an Agent. Maria's father Dennis had been a Clerk to Steam Navigaton Company. Matthew Eager was a witness. [3]
In 1871 Maria Catherine Hawley, married, was living in Bedminster with 6 children. the family also had a servant. [4]
The couple had another 2 children, Herbert and Percival by 1881 when James and Maria were living in Bedminster with 11 children. James was a manufacturer of Pottery and Maria was an assistant in the Pottery. [5]
Maria died on 14 February 1896 and is buried in Bristol with James and children Alice Margaret and Emily Hawley. [6] The inscription on her memorial stone reads;
