Cockey was a prominent and common name in the Baltimore area, as evidenced by the town of Cockeysville in Baltimore County. But this branch, with Charles Vincent, Mary Louisa and children, lived a hard life. For instance, in 1900, Charles and his two oldest children - Dora (12 yrs) and Sadie (10 yrs) worked in a cotton mill.
Dora married Edward T. Buffington in October of 1905 (license issued 24 Oct in Towson, MD), and they had two children before the 1910 census. Yet in 1910, she was enumerated as family #61 on her own Buffington family's Druid Ave census sheet, while she, not her husband or children, was also enumerated on her parents' - family #52 - Druid Ave census sheet as Dora Cockey (but she is listed as married with two children.).***a census anomaly***
Dora and Edward had nine children - Evelyn, Leroy, Edna, Kenneth, Mary, Marion, Edward, Dora, and Hazel.
She passed away in 1976.
