Amy Lilian Marianna Chauvel was born on 16th March 1867 at Tabulam, New South Wales, Australia. She was the eldest daughter of Charles Chauvel and Fanny James.[1] She was christened on 30th June 1867. The Chauvels were from a French Huguenot family who fled France for England in 1685.
Her parents established a 96,000-acre station at Tabulam, on the Clarence River near Kyogle in the north of New South Wales, on which the family raised 12,000 head of cattle and 320 horses. Following a series of severe droughts in northern New South Wales, the property was sold in 1888, debts cleared, and a much smaller 12,000-acre property purchased at Canning Downs on the Darling Downs in Queensland.
Amy married her cousin, Arthur Charles Chauvel, in 1915 in Sydney, New South Wales.[2] They were both in their 50s. They had no children. They made their home in Sydney.
She passed away in 1953 at Petersham, New South Wales.[3]
