Biography

Margaret (Charters) Williams migrated from County Derry, Ireland to Canada West.

Margaret Charters, the daughter of Margaret and Alexander Charters, was born on March 18, 1855^[1] in County Derry, Ireland.^[2] She migrated with her family to Toronto, York County, Canada West (Ontario) about 1859-60, where they lived in St. James Ward.^[3][4] On July 1, 1878 in Toronto, she married wood and coal merchant Joseph James (abt.1843-1882).^[2] Following Joseph's untimely death in 1882, she took a second husband, plumber William John Williams (son of David Williams and Sarah Guy, b. Toronto 1860, d. York 1923), on Nov. 14, 1888 in York County.^[5] Margaret died on Dec. 24, 1917 in York, and is buried in Toronto's Mount Pleasant Cemetery.^{[1] [6]}
