Biography
Dalton Chamberlayne was born in 1843 in Mutford, Suffolk, England[1] into the wealthy Chamberlayne family.
Around 1870 he "seduced" one of his father's servants, Harriet Bennett. She gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Emma Jane Chamberlayne Bennett.
On 23 Nov 1870 Harriet appeared in court with an application against Dalton for an affiliation order (an order to establish paternity). Dalton's defence was that his brother Robert John was the real father. The court found in favour of Harriet, and Dalton was established as the father of Emma[2].
He passed away in 1908 in Mitford, Norfolk[3].
