Carson County is located in the center of the Panhandle and on the eastern edge of the Texas High Plains. Founded in 1876 and later organized in 1888. It is named for Samuel Price Carson, the first secretary of state of the Republic of Texas. The county seat is Panhandle. Carson County is included in the Amarillo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
