Biography

James was born about 1871, probably in England or Scotland to John and Agnes Caskie. He emigrated to New Zealand with his family on the maiden voyage of the ship Invercargill in 1874, aged 2 1/2, and they settled at Lawrence, Otago. He married Emma Wilson about 1902 (also known as Emily) and they had one child. He was a drainage contractor and subsequently lived at Dunedin and Auckland. He passed away in 1940 at Auckland and was buried at Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland.
