Clarence was born in 1921.^[1] He was the son of Earl L Caskey and Nellie M.^[2]

Clarence enlisted in the United States Navy on 10 October 1939.^[3] Seaman First Class Clarence Merton Caskey was serving aboard the USS Arizona when she was sunk on 7 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.^[3] Clarence remains entombed in the sunken ship.
