Sergeant George Fitzhugh Carter, Sr. was born in 1819, at his father's estate in Sudley. His parents were William Fizhugh Carter and Elizabeth Lucy Ball. In 1850, George married Evelina Louise Bronaugh, born in November, 1832, in Washington, District of Columbia.
During the American Civil War, George served in Company F. of the 6th Regiment of Virginia Calvary, as part of the Confederate States Army. George ide in 1904 and is buried in the churchyard of the Sudley, United Methodist Church. [1]
