Hannah Carrick was born in Coal Valley, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on 12 December 1853 and was the second daughter of John Carrick and Ann Race.
Hannah was born about four months after her parents arrived in New York From Durham, England, and was the first of their children to be born in the United States. On the 1860 census, the family are living in Jefferson, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, with her parents and her siblings: Margaret (9 years), John (4 years) and Joseph (2 years). Her father, John, is working as a miner.[1]
Hannah married John Hohn in 1870 when she was only sixteen and they settled in Jefferson where John was a miner. They had no children.
On the 1870 census, John and Hannah are newlyweds living in Jefferson, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, where John is working in the mines.[2] On the 1880 census, John and Hannah are living in Mckeesport, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, where John is a saloon keeper. Hannah's sister, Mary Ann Carrick, is living with them.[3]
On the 1900 census, Hannah, a widow, is living at 1307 Fifth Avenue, McKeesport, Pennsylvania, with her adopted son, William Hohn, however this is probably her nephew, William W Carrick, the eldest son of her brother, John Carrick who is shown living with her in later census records. Hannah's parents are also living with her.[4]
On the 1910 census, Hannah is living on State Road, Versailles, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, with her mother, Ann, and her nephew, William W Carrick, who was listed in the previous census as her adopted son. Hannah is a merchant in the grocery business and William is a salesman.[5] On the 1920 census records, Hannah is living on Lincoln Highway, Versailles, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, with her nephew, William, and his wife, Mary, and their two young daughters, Anna and Dorothy. Hannah is a stenographer in the confectionary industry and William is still a grocery salesman.[6]
Hannah Carrick died, aged 74 years, on 4 August 1928 and was buried at Richland Cemetery, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.[7]
