  • Bathurst Free Press and Mining Journal Sat 28 May 1853

Fatal Accident: On Saturday evening last (21st), a man named John {William} Byrnes, who was returning in company with his brother {John}, with a horse and cart, from Bathurst met with an accident which terminated in his death. It appears that the brothers were riding in the cart, and that the horse shied as he passed a hole in the river bank, opposite Morgan's brick-yard, when the unfortunate deceased sprang from the cart to seize his head, and being thrown to the ground in the attempt, the vehicle passed over his chest and so seriously injured him as to produce death, almost immediately after his removal home. An inquest was held over his body and a verdict of accidental death returned.

22nd May 1853 William Byrne "Accidental Death" at Bathurst NSW from Coroner's Records.
