Biography

Hello Everyone, let me introduce myself. My name is Allice Burns Reynolds, yes, Allice has two Ls. I began my family history search in about 1981, before computers and definitely before the Internet. I had lost my grandparents and my father all within 6 years, family history was a way to keep them close to me.

In 1939, my maternal grandfather took the time to write a short history of our family on his "Big Chief" tablet paper. He listed my mother, uncle and aunts, my grandmother and himself, with their birth dates and places. Grandpa took our history back four generations. That is where I began my search. Over the years, I found two of the grandmothers listed were not correct, but Grandpa pointed me in the right direction and began my obsession with family. It is a wonderful journey! I have "found" so many cousins I would never have known if not for genealogy.

I still have that first family history written on the "Big Chief" tablet paper.

Thank you for participating in past Thons as a member of the Toddlin' Tortoises. If you decide to participate again in January's upcoming Connect a Thon, the registration this time will be somewhat different. (You can read about it here.) We would love to have you join us again, but whatever team you decide to join will be lucky to have you!

Thanks so much for being part of the Toddlin' Tortoises Team for the April 2023 Source-a-Thon. Every source or citation verifying the information on a profile, helps make for a healthier Tree!

Thank you so much for signing up with the Toddlin' Tortoises in the January 2023 Connect-a-Thon. We may be slower than many, but we are all still winners!

Hello Anne B. I continue to work on my family tree which includes William Brewster of the Mayflower. Both my parents are descendants of William Brewster and we descend through two of Jonathan Brewster and Lucretia Oldham’s daughters, Hannah Brewster who married Samuel Starr & Grace Brewster who married Daniel Wetherell.

I would appreciate continuing my status in the Mayflower Project.

P. S.

Allice has two Ls.

I just checked in with Liz in May. Is this a monthly process? I only work on my own family members as they are the only ones I actively research.

If something more is required perhaps it would be better to remove my tree members from the US Southern Colonies Project.

Allice Burns Reynolds

Hi Allice, you posted a new message thus it did not go out to me. For your questions, Liz did the January 2021 check in, and if you checked in in May, she had probably sent more than one message.

To answer the question if we are checking monthly. The answer is No, we check in each 6 months.

I am marking you Active n your own family members. (We cannot remove your tree members from Southern Colonies )

Thank you for the answer to the polling.

Hi Allice! I'm following up on the January 2021 check-in for the US Southern Colonies Project & I realized that you may have missed the roll-call notice in the Discussion Google Group... I don't see that you're member of that group. So I thought I'd give you a shout-out before removing your project badge (awarded in 2015!!). Please reply if you'd like to stay in the project.

The US Southern Colonies Project was relaunched in May 2020 & one requirement was that all members join the Discussion Google Group (joining the more active Project Alerts Google Group is optional). The project also has two participation requirements: (1) that you join a team & (2) that you reply to checkins.

So... if you could reply to this comment, that will take care of (2). Please take a look at the project's teams - listed at Space: US Southern Colonies Teams - and send me a private message letting me know which one(s) you'd like to join. Then I can get you signed up with that team or teams & also add you to the Discussion Google Group.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response! You're all set. When you get a chance, drop by the Colony of Virginia Team page and add your interest area by your name in the Member list.

Hi Allice,

As you may have seen, we have been doing some restructuring in the US Southern Colonies Project and are now organising ourselves into different teams. We have also changed the criteria for membership. Please have a look at the new project pages, and let me know whether you would like to remain in the project and, if so, which team(s) you would like to be in.

Please can you also send me your e-mail address. I can then make sure you are introduced to your Team Leaders and are in the Google Group.

Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the US Southern Colonies Project that you respond to these check-ins. We’re really excited for the future of the project and hope that you decide to be a part of it with us moving forwards.

Many thanks,

Susie, US Southern Colonies Project Co-Leader

Hi Alllice, I have not received a definite answer if you wish to remain a Southern_Colonies member.

It has been a couple of weeks since we contacted you about your participation in the Southern Colonies Project. As we haven't heard from you, we are following up to make sure you wish to remain a member.

We understand that interests shift, and some members may have moved on to projects pertinent to their ancestors. If this is the case for you, please let us know.

If we do not hear back from you within the week, we will assume you have moved on to other things for the moment and remove you from the project. You will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction.

Thank you so much for your participation .

Allice,

Many projects have had their members polled to see if they feel they are still active.

If you have Virginia ancestors , you may remain a member of Southern_Colonies.

I hope my explanation helps..

Hi Allice

Congratulations on your Pre-1700 Self-Certification! Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Or you're interested in a particular time period, location, or topic ? Let me know. I can help you figure out if any Projects fit your interests and introduce you to the Leaders.

Projects are a great way to collaborate on your ancestors' profiles and learn the naming conventions and other standards used for profiles from particular places and time periods.

Have you read Research Before Editing? The Sources Style Guide is also essential reading for working on pre-1700 profiles.

Have fun
