John graduated from Case Institute of Technology (now merged into Case Western Reserve University). He was active in Weathervane Theater of Akron along with his brother-in-law, Jesse Skriletz.

John, son of Ernest Brownsword & Ethel Nye, married Phoebe Myers on 31 January 1953 in Summit, Ohio, United States.^[4] He met Phoebe at Weathervane Theater. The marriage was officiated by Rev. G Lynn Pugh and took place in the Tallmadge Historic Church. They had two children:

John was a research engineer for Goodyear Tire & Rubber for many years, first in Akron, Ohio, then Geneva, Ohio, and finally Logan, Ohio. After retiring from Goodyear, he and Phoebe moved to Venice, Florida, then to Raleigh NC.

John, son of Ernest Brownsword & Ethel Nye, died (age 71) in 1992 in Raleigh, Wake, North Carolina, United States.^[5]
