James Breen was born at Whitefield, Maine, 1826, [1] [2] [3] or Ireland, Jan 1827, parents not identified. [4] [5]

He married, c1848, Caroline McLaughlin. [6] [7] They divorced before 31 Jul 1872, when she married (2) at Topsfield, Maine, David T. Bagley. [8] She married (3) at Topsfield, Maine, 3 Sep 1877, Jesse C. Lakin, [9] [10] born at Charlotte, Maine, Apr 1835, the son of Luther Lakin and Barbara Lyons.

James Breen enlisted in the US Navy as a ship carpenter at New York City, 5 Jul 1864; mustered out at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, California, 5 Jul 1867, disabled due to injury to right hand during the summer of 1867 at Orono, Maine. He was admitted, 19 Jan 1894, to the Maine Home for Disabled Veterans at Chelsea, Maine, where he died of "carcinoma of face", 20 Apr 1907; next of kin listed as John Breen, Princeton, Maine. [5] He is buried in the Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Maine. [11] [12]
