Jack Brake was a former leading Australian rules footballer who played with both University and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

John Brake enlisted in the Third Division Artillery of the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) at the start of the war, reaching the rank of Lieutenant, Serving from: 12 Nov 1915 - 19 Aug 1919.) His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A7 Medic on 20 May 1916.

He married Grace Glendenning Taylor in 1921.

Jack Brake is also noted as having played for the Third Australian Divisional team in the famous "Pioneer Exhibition Game" of Australian Rules football, held in London, in October 1916. A news film was taken at the match and can be seen on YouTube.
