Joan was the daughter of John de Bohun, Knt., of Midhurst, Sussex, and his first wife Isabel.[1][2] Her date of birth is unknown and is estimated to be about 1326.[3] Her mother, Isabel, may have been the daughter of Henry de Tregoz, Knt., of Goring, Sussex.[4][5]
Joan de Bohun married John de Lisle,[6] son and heir of John de Lisle and his wife Joan.[1][2][7] The date of their marriage is estimated to be about 1341.[3] They had one son and two daughters:
John de Lisle, baptized 6 November 1342 (aged 6 in 1349), died without issue in 1369,[1][2][3] married Alice _____[7]
Eve de Lisle, married John Battesford (or Burford), Knt.[1][2]
Joan's husband, John de Lisle, died in 1349.[1][2] Joan was alive on 1 February 1359, when "the king granted that she should retain the manor of Lordington (in Racton), Sussex...."[2] Joan had previously been granted the wardship of the manors of Lordington and Compton, in 1349, to hold "during the minority of John," son and heir of her late husband.[1] Her husband's mother Joan also died in 1349, leaving "a grandson John, age 6 [who] died in 1369, leaving as heir his sister Elizabeth, who married John Bramshott."[8]
Research Notes
The wife of John de Lisle is incorrectly identified as "Elizabeth" de Bohun instead of Joan in The Visitations of Sussex.[9][10][11]
She is Joan in "The Bohuns of Midhurst" by G. W. Watson:[7]
"Joan. She m. John de Lisle, of Gatcombe, in the Isle of Wight. He was b. 13 June 1324, succeeded his father, John de Lisle in 1337,[26] and d. 31 March 1349. Her dower was assigned 24 Sep. 1349.[27]"

↑ NOTE: Visitations are considered primary sources for those visited and the previous generation (or more). However, John de Lisle was born about 1324 and the first visitation recorded in the Visitations of Sussex was 1530, more than 200 years earlier. Other discrepancies in the Bramshott lineage shown in the visitations cast doubt on its reliability for these early generations. Sources to collaborate her name as Elizabeth were not found; other sources found call her Joan.
↑ NOTE: A comment on the profile for descendant Elizabeth (Bramshot) Dudley notes that the Bramshott lineage shown in the visitations is missing two generations of Bohuns.

It's apparently now haunted by Margaret Pole. Joan is connected to Margaret through her gr-gr-granddaughter Margaret Bramshot (see Special:Connection and enter Plantagenet-1593 and Bohun-152).
update - reading the Facebook post more closely, it might be "Lordington House" not "Lordington Manor" that Margaret haunts, although it's not clear between the info in the URL ("haunting of Lordington Manor") and the text. I think I need more coffee :D
Hi! This profile in on a 'trail' from Gateway Ancestor Elizabeth Covert to Surety Baron Richard de Clare. The Magna Carta project will be updating this profile in line with project guidelines. See See Base Camp, contact person Anderson-35092
Hi! I was going through profiles on the Magna Carta watchlist to check that a project managed any that were PPP. I removed PPP from this profile instead of adding a project box & WikiTree-36 as a manager. Let me know if you think it needs protection (private message or a post on my profile) & I'll set it up with Magna Carta Project's "Trail Pending" project box.
