Birth
Charles was born on the 22nd April 1874, in Greenhithe, Kent, England, the second son of Rev Thomas Blackburn and his first wife Jessie Ann, née Wood. [1][2]

Charles married Vera Louise Le Patourel, the younger daughter of Captain Henry Le Patourel and Isabelle Sarah Tempest, nee Durham, on the [3]

Military Service: The Great war (1914-1918)
Charles served in the Great War on the 1st August 1916, as a medical officer (Lieutenant Colonel), with the 14th Australian General Hospital.[5] [6]
He embarked on the RMS Kashgar, Sydney to 14 AGH in Egypt. Charles was "mentioned in despatches 23rd October 1918 (Main despatch dated 22nd January 1919) by General Sir Ed H H Allenby G.C.B., G.C.M.G., Commander-in-Chief, Egyptian Expeditionary Force.[7] [8]

Charles was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for "valuable services rendered in connexion with military operations in Egypt". (Promulgated in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette, number 61, dated 23rd May 1919.)[9]
Bronze Oak Leaf[10] Certificate for mention in Despatches.][11] Receipt of Two Oak Leaves (one large, one small). Mentioned in Despatches emblem.][12]

Death
Charles Bickerton Blackburn passed away at his Bellevue Hill home in 1972, aged 98 years, survived by one of his two sons, Charles Ruthven Bickerton, and daughter, Vera, Mrs Philip Game (husband Philip was son of Sir Philip Game)[19][20] Regards Probate of the Will of Charles Blackburn.[21]
