Biography
Maud Matilda FitzHarding Berkeley
The details recorded for this person follow Smyth, Lives of the Berkeleys.
However, most modern sources (especially see Cawley) consider Smyth to be in error on this point. The daughter of Maurice and Alice de Berkeley is better identified as Maud (Berkeley-363) (or Matilda), who married Elias Giffard (or Gifford) and had a son, Osbert.
The corollary is that there was no daughter of Maurice and Alice who married an Osbert Giffard.
Note also this person is replicated in De_Berkeley-181. Review of the validity of Gifford-187 may be warranted.
This profile was attached as a daughter of Maurice and Alice de Berkeley but has been split from them for the reasons above. It remains in case a future re-creation of this person is proposed. (See also related policy discussion here.)
Burial Place: Brentford Church, Middlesex

Berkeley-363 and Berkeley-136 appear to represent the same person because: based on the research done on Berkeley-136, it looks like these two profiles should be merged into the "known" person with research notes to cover the person that never existed.
I just completed the merge, and only now reading Robin Lee's comment, I'm worried I did it exactly wrong. :( I merged into the lower number, but did not include the connected parents, the death date or the biography from the later duplicate-- thinking them disproven. So sorry! R. Lee, please let me know if/how I can fix this!
