His obituary was published as follows:
THOMAS BEER, CIVIL WAR VET DIES AT LORAINE
 Loraine, Ill., Jan. 7. - Thomas Beer, an old resident of Adams county and a veteran of the Civil war, died at his home here Wednesday. He was born June 6, 1842, in Falling Timber, Pa., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Beer, and enlisted when 18, in Co. F, 28 Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He fought in many battles and was wounded three times. He was discharged July 20, 1864, after having served three years, and in September of that year came to Adams county. For a time he worked as a carpenter with his brother Sam. He was married in September, 1865 to Mary A. Selby. To them was born a daughter, now Mrs. Lydia Nolan, of Peoria. The wife died and in September of 1869, Mr. Beer again married Miss Mary P. Evans, who also died. Three children survive, John, of San Jose, Cal., Ray, near York Neck, and Mrs. Bertha Kincheloe of St. Louis. A son, Warren, died last September, in Nebraska. There are seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church in Loraine, of which Mr. Beer was a member. He was also a member of the Loraine lodge of Masons and of the I.O.O.F. of Camp Point. For seven years he has lived with his son, Ray.
