James Albert "Darky" Banks was an Australian Rules Footballer who played 148 games for South Fremantle in the West Australian Football League, and 39 games for Perth in the same League. Also known as Albert Banks, he was captain for South Fremantle in 1909, 1912 and 1914. He was also known as a cricketer of some skill, playing first-class for Western Australia (1908/09, 1920/21).
James Albert Banks was born on the 10th December 1883, on the Maryborough goldfields, Victoria, Australia, the eighth child, sixth son of Jordan Henry Bankss, a formerly enslaved person from the Southern United States who had escaped through Canada, and his wife Sarah Jane née McMullen..[1]
He was not known to have married, and had no known issue.
James Albert "Darky" Banks passed away on the 5th July 1930, in Perth, Western Australia, Australia,[2] and was interred in the Karrakatta Cemetery, Karrakatta.[3]
